Ford has announced its second-ever SYNC AppLink Developer Conference will be held in San Francisco this year in tandem with famed developer conference TechCrunch Disrupt.
The SYNC AppLink Developer Conference, first held last year, aims to help drive growth of the automotive app developer community. App developers are invited to create original Ford SYNC-compatible apps or improve on existing ones to help make Ford drivers’ time behind the wheel more enjoyable and present them at the conference.
“Ford was the first automaker to host a developer conference, and at the event last year we experienced the power of innovation within the developer community,” said Ford’s global director for Connected Services Solutions, Doug VanDagens. “For the second annual hackathon, we hope to break new ground and discover new ways to enhance the in-car experience.”
The winner of Ford’s AppLink Developer Conference last year was FuelSignal, which leveraged Ford’s AppLink system and data from the City of Los Angeles to give app users discounted gas prices and allow them to earn loyalty credits for use at various gas stations.
