Through thick and thin, it’s arguably been the passionate support of fans that’s kept Tesla Motors alive and well while the company cut its teeth, first with the Lotus-based Tesla Roadster, and later with the completely original Tesla Model S sedan. Positive press is a godsend.
Now, it seems that the automaker has garnered the mother of all endorsements; Oprah Winfrey test drove a Tesla Model S earlier this month, stating that she “loves” the car, and posting enthusiastic photos of the drive to Instagram.
While “the Oprah bump” will undoubtedly draw some extra attention and positive regard to the Tesla Model S sedan, Fortune notes that there is quite a difference between Ms. Winfrey’s fans rushing out to buy her latest book recommendation, and dropping upwards of $70k on a car. Still, Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk was so pleased with the positive press that he retweeted her post.
The Tesla Model S sedan is currently the only model available in the EV company’s stable, but not for long. Deliveries of the Tesla Model X pure-electric SUV are scheduled to start later this month, and some early reservation-holders have already been allowed to option out their vehicles.
