Dodge Adds 12.1-inch Uconnect Touchscreen To Charger Pursuit For 2016

Dodge has updated its Charger Pursuit police service vehicle for the 2016 model year with an available 12.1-inch Uconnect touchscreen, the largest of its kind in the segment. The screen allows for the integration of law enforcement’s own computer systems and was designed using feedback from Dodge Law Enforcement’s 19-member Police Advisory Board.

The new 12.1-inch display offers several advantages over the standard 5-inch display or a typical center-mounted laptop style police display. A center-mounted police laptop with multiple displays requires mounting brackets and other modifications, which are heavy and can be dangerous in the event of a collision. They can also have a negative effect on the driver’s line of sight and are less ergonomic, problems the Uconnect display easily side steps.

In addition to being safer and easier to use, the Uconnect screen is able to display radio and vehicle controls and toggle a law enforcement officer’s computer via a menu bar. There’s an Ethernet cable for connecting an officer’s mobile computer in the trunk, and the screen itself has been optimized to be used in extreme temperatures and allows for the use of bulky gloves. Also present on the screen is a fourth auxiliary button in addition to the other three steering wheel mounted buttons in the Charger Pursuit, allowing agencies to connect another third party item such as sirens, an LED light bar or a computer.

“As technology continues to evolve, the next wave of Uconnect features and services is in constant progression and our latest Charger Pursuit application with our massive 12.1-inch touchscreen display is just a taste of our in-house capabilities to expand and integrate different technologies for our customers,” said head of Uconnect marketing for Fiat-Chryler, Joni Christensen. “This is a great opportunity to adapt our easy-to-use Uconnect system to benefit law enforcement officers, making it even easier to keep their hand on the wheel and eyes on the road.”
