‘EcoBeast’ To Be Name Of Engine Powering Next-Gen Ford F-150 Raptor

Update: this rumor has been confirmed, as Ford has just released details on its 2017 F-150 Raptor powered by the 3.5L V6 EcoBeast engine.

Just a few weeks ago, Motrolix discovered a Ford Motor Company trademark filing for the term EcoBeast. At the time, we hypothesized that The Blue Oval would use the EcoBeast mark to brand a more powerful (beastly) version of its EcoBoost engine. But now, we know more.

According to sources familiar with Ford’s future product plans, EcoBeast will be the engine name in the next-generation F-150 SVT Raptor. At this time, we aren’t privy to the details surrounding the motor, but we have a hunch that it will be a high-performance version of Ford’s trademark twin-turbo 3.5L EcoBoost V6. The boosted six-banger makes 365 horsepower and 420 pound-feet of torque in the 2015 F-150, and we can see the EocBeast bringing those numbers up to 400 horses and 450 pound-feet of torque for the Raptor.

Stay tuned as we learn more, perhaps this week at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, where rumor has it that Ford will debut the all-new 2016 F-150 Raptor.
