Classic 1930 Ford Model A Becomes Someone’s Daily Driver

Call it crazy, but Jonathan Klinger, a public relations manager for Hagerty Insurance, is driving around a 1930 Ford Model A… and will continue to do so for one year, including winter.

“I firmly believe that people should drive their old cars and not just put them in museums and garages. The cars are great to look at, but the real appreciation comes from driving. That’s why I’m doing this,” said Klinger.

For those unfamiliar with Hagerty Insurance, the company insures classic cars. Klinger got the idea from speaking with his boss last year during lunch:

“He said if I were truly serious about my love for old cars, this was something I should do.”

Jonathan bought this 1930 Model A back in July with 52,500 miles. The classic vehicle is equipped with a 4-cylinder water-cooled engine producing 40 horsepower mated to a 3-speed manual transmission. Everything on the vehicle is stock except for an aftermarket heater (for winter). Jonathan has already driven the Model A for a full quarter, logging 4,500 miles and bringing the total mileage to 57,000. In fact, Klinger has just completed a trip to the North American International Auto Show that took 7 hours to cover 270 miles due to the Model A’s top speed of 55 MPH.

Jonathan is blogging about driving the Model A at 365DaysofA.com. He plans to wrap up the year of driving with a trip down to Hershey, PA., for a car show and swap meet.
