Spyker Saved From Bankruptcy Thanks To Investment From American Aircraft Company

Dutch supercar manufacturer Spyker has been in limbo as of late, stuck in bankruptcy protection as it attempts to regain its bearings. The automaker may now be back, though, after confirming a merger with Portland, OR-based American electric aircraft manufacturer Volta Volaré.

Spyker was created in 1880 as a carriage manufacturer, but switched to making aircraft during World War I. The company went bust in 1926, but was revived by Dutch businessman Victor R Muller in 1999 as an automaker, until the company ran out of money late last year. Now, Volta Volaré has come to Spyker’s rescue, with Spyker saying they will “finalise the agreements with investors,” in coming weeks.

“We have gone through a very rough patch during the past year, going from moratorium in early December 2014 to being declared bankrupt on December 18th, subsequently filing an appeal of that decision, winning that appeal on January 22nd, 2015 and returning to moratorium as a consequence,” Muller said in a statement. “After winning a long legal battle with just one creditor, we have now finally succeeded in exiting moratorium and we are back in business as a healthy, debt free enterprise.”
