Roadster Variant Of The Lotus Evora 400 Planned For The US Market

After a year of draught, the official, warmly-welcomed return of Lotus Cars to the US will take place this December, when the Lotus Evora 400 coupe arrives on America’s shores. The standard Evora was forced to withdraw from the market after it failed to comply with new safety standards – something about smart airbags.

Incidentally, “Smart Airbag” was my nickname in high school. I still can’t work out whether it was intended as a compliment.

At any rate, 6 months after the coupe body style Lotus Evora 400 makes its way across the Atlantic, yet another model is set to follow; at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, Lotus Cars CEO Jean-Marc Gales told members of website Automotive News that a roadster variant of the aforementioned Lotus Evora 400 will arrive at that time.

As the name suggests, the Lotus Evora 400 has 400 HP – up from 345 in the previous Evora model. Like its predecessor, it will still be powered by a supercharged, 3.5-liter V6 borrowed from Toyota. But rather than having a folding roof like the typical roadster, this Lotus Evora 400 will feature two removable carbon fiber roof panels, which can be detached and stored behind the seats.

Still to come: a “lighter, faster” version of the Evora 400, reports Automotive News. After that, we’ve still got an eye out for that Lotus crossover SUV.
