Lamborghini Already Developing More Huracan Model Variants

Deliveries of Lamborghini’s new Huracan have only just begun, but already the Italian marque is talking about introducing more model variations of the supercar, including a rear-wheel drive variant. The information was recently revealed to Autocar by Lamborghini boss Stephan Winkelmann at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.

At Pebble Beach, Lamborghini unveiled the new rear-wheel drive Super Trofeo racer, which will compete in the automaker’s one-make Super Trofeo racing series. The rear-wheel drive layout, different from the Gallardo Super Trofeo’s all-wheel drive setup, is likely to trickle down into a road car variant which will be similar to the limited-run Gallardo LP550-2 Balboni.

“We did it with the Gallardo so it might be an option,” Winkelmann said. “We are a four-wheel-drive super-sports car (manufacturer) but why should we not do a rear-drive option?”

Winkelmann also mentioned other Huracan model variants could be on the way, adding the brand needs “lots of derivatives as the “customers expect it” and Lamborghini always needs “something new to talk about.”

Autocar says a Spyder version of the Huracan is due out next year, while faster, lighter versions of the car comparable to the Gallardo Superleggera and Super Trofeo are also expected to be introduced in the future.
