eBay Find: 1988 Saleen Mustang Race Car

Feast your eyes on this 1988 Saleen Ford Mustang on eBay, one of only eight built by Saleen for the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Escort Endurance Championship. Even though this car started life as a Saleen Mustang invoiced by Ford, all R-series Saleens were race cars from day one.

Steve Saleen began to modify Mustangs starting in the 1980s after leaving Formula Atlantic racing, but he also discovered a need for showroom-stock racers, which is where car #21R comes into play. Saleen built all eight to endure 24-hour races races that placed great challenges on both the car and the drivers. With tuned suspension, larger wheels and other upgrades that reinforced what already was stock, Saleen’s race Mustangs proved their worth and won the SCCA Drivers’ championship for its class in 1987 and also won the 24 Hours of Mosport from 1986-88.

This “Bumblebee” Saleen, originally driven by Rick Titus, Calvin Fish, and George Follmer, comes complete with a Saleen title, Steve Saleen’s signature on the interior, original wheels, SCCA logbook, and the company’s ID tags on the console and firewall. The buy it now price of $65,000 is good until August 13, but the seller is open to offers.
