Driving The $30M Le Mans-Winning Audi R18 E-Tron: Video

We all owe Audi a huge “thank you.” Few automakers let the automotive media drive their racecars, especially not Le Mans-winning ones, but Audi had no qualms about letting EVO Magazine, and now Motor Trend, climb behind the wheel of their $30 million R18 e-tron quattro.

Audi letting the media drive their R18 means people like you and me get tons of on-board track-driving footage of the legendary prototype we otherwise wouldn’t have. Seeing a piece of racing history at Le Mans is one thing, but seeing it all alone on a track away from other racecars is even more mesmerizing.

Motor Trend’s resident racing driver Randy Pobst assumed driving duties for the R18 e-tron. Pobst is a seasoned racecar driver, so he’s immediately comfortable behind the wheel of the R18, but it’s still a daunting task driving a multi-million dollar, 540 horsepower Le Mans prototype which is slated to enter the Audi Museum following your track session with it.

Despite this, Pobst handled the somewhat nerve-racking situation like the absolute pro that he is. Don’t miss his laps in the video below, as it may be the closest you ever get to actually driving the R18.
