Le Mans-Winning 1982 Porsche 956 To Be Auctioned At Pebble Beach

The Porsche 956 was perhaps the preeminent endurance racing car of the FIA Group C era, having won the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans twice, and holding the overall Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record since 1983 – a record which stands to this day.

Knowing this, it ought to excite you that a prime example of the legendary Porsche 956 is going under the gavel at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance auction this year, hosted by Gooding & Company. Autoblog reports that this very car is the example which won the 24 Hours of Le Mans outright in 1983, and it still wears its original Rothmans livery and big No. 3 graphic.

Gooding & Company predicts that this 1982 Porsche 956 race car could fetch as much as $7 to $9 million when it goes up for auction this August. That said, the car already failed to sell some 8 years ago at an RM Auctions event in Scottsdale, Arizona; hopefully she finds a caring family to go home with this time around.

If this Porsche 956 does manage to command a full $7 million, or close to, it would take the record for the most expensive Porsche ever sold at auction.
