Executive Shuffle: Ford Announces Leadership Changes In Europe, Powertrain Engineering

In conjunction with changes to its U.S. Marketing, Sales and Service position earlier this week, Ford also announced changes to its leadership team in Europe and in powertrain engineering. The changes, according to the automaker, are designed to “continue delivering the company’s One Ford plan for profitable growth”, and involves three positions.

Barb Samardzich

To start: Barb Samardzich is appointed chief operating officer, Ford of Europe. In her new role, Ms. Samardzich will be responsible for a diverse set of operations at Ford of Europe, including manufacturing, quality, product development, purchasing, and sustainability, environment and safety engineering. She will continue to report to Stephen Odell, executive vice president and president of Europe, Middle East and Africa. Currently, Ms. Samardzich is vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe, where she oversees Ford’s product programs and operations in the region.

Joe Bakaj

Succeeding Samardzich is Joe Bakaj, who is appointed vice president, Product Development, Ford of Europe. Currently vice president, Powertrain Engineering, Mr. Bakaj oversees all engine and transmission engineering around the world. In his new role, Mr. Bakaj will report to Samardzich and to Raj Nair, group vice president, Global Product Development.

Robert Fascetti

Lastly, Bob Fascetti is elected a Ford Motor Company officer and named vice president, Powertrain Engineering, succeeding Mr. Bakaj. Reporting to Mr. Nair, Mr. Fascetti’s new role as director, Global Engine Engineering, Mr. Fascetti leads the engineering operations for all of Ford’s engine development worldwide. Througout his 25-year career, he has served in a variety of senior leadership positions in Ford’s powertrain, product development and manufacturing operations.

All appointments are effective November 1.
