Sources: 2013 Lincoln MKZ To Feature Sliding Glass Roof?

Whatever your opinion of the Lincoln MKZ concept shown at the Detroit Auto Show in January, the design certainly takes Ford’s luxury brand in a new direction. And when the Lincoln shows the production version of the MKZ later this year, it may feature an unexpected surprise: a retractable glass roof.

While the MKZ concept has a fixed glass roof, industry insiders have gone on record to Motrolix as saying that Lincoln designers have been hard at work on a glass panel (or multiple panels) that would lift up and slide towards the rear of the vehicle, settling in over the rear glass. Such a feature would provide an open-air experience for front- and rear-seat occupants alike.

The Motrolix Take

As far as we know, this will be a first for four-door sedans in the industry. And it would be another step to effectively position the Lincoln brand in the automotive luxury space, something that has proven a challenge for The Blue Oval.

What would be interesting to find out is whether such a feature will be standard or offered as an option on the all-new MKZ. Looks like we’ll need to wait to find out in the months leading up to the unveiling of the production version.

As always, stay tuned to Motrolix for the latest Ford and Lincoln news, reviews, rumors, and more.
