After seeing a 184 percent year-over-year increase in 2010 sales to 83,887 vehicles, Ford India is celebrating a successful 2010. The jump in sales is mostly attributed to the new Ford Figo compact car that launched back in March. The Figo, which shares its underlying architecture with the global B-platform Ford Fiesta, has seen sales totaling approximately 60,000 units and has received the title of Indian Car of the Year 2011 and ET ZigWheels Best Premium Hatch and Car of the Year 2010 within the same week.
“This has been an outstanding year for Ford in India with nearly triple digit growth rates. It is also extremely encouraging to see the Figo sweep many prestigious industry awards and it is gratifying to see so many Figos on India’s roads,” said Michael Boneham, president and managing director at Ford India.
We’re very interested to see how the Blue Oval fares in the burgeoning Indian auto market in 2011… stay tuned for more on this topic from Motrolix.
