Think quick: what happens when gas prices are on the rise in a depressed economy? Answer: people buy more fuel-efficient cars. And the automakers with the best fuel-efficient vehicles stand to reap the benefits.
That’s the case with the 40 MPG (highway) Ford Focus, which will sell more than 20,000 units in February 2012 compared to 10,879 in February 2011. The increase represents a 59.8 percent jump in year-over-year sales and marks the best sales performance of the compact vehicle in over a decade; the last time Focus sales passed 20,000 vehicles was February of 2001.
Ford will release its February 2012 U.S. sales figures on Thursday, March 1, 2012 — at which point we’ll know how many units, exactly, the Focus sold.
The Motrolix Take
This is what happens when you build class-leading, global products. Good on ya Ford.
