650-Horsepower Shelby GT500 Mustang Priced At $54,200*, Configurator Goes Live

Ford’s new leviathan, the 650-horsepower 2013 Mustang Shelby GT500 has finally been priced with deliveries happening in a few months time. For $54,200 (plus a $795 destination charge), buyers can own a guided missile aimed directly at the 580-horse Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. When factoring the destination charges into the bottom line for both cars, their asking price is an identical $54,995. These two rivals should make for an interesting summer on Woodward Avenue.

Additionally, we can all pass the time by configuring our own Shelby GT500. Optioning everything out, the price tag will come close to $70,000 — pricey, yes, but still a bargain considering the power output. Not even GM’s Corvette ZR1 comes close. So what we have here, aside from a drag strip factory rocket, is a $54,995 topic starter.  Now lets see somebody let all 650 ponies loose.
