As of this writing, Ford has yet to release official information (or footage) about the performance of its updated 2013/2014 Mustang Shelby GT500 on the famed Nürburgring track. Recently, however, the folks at The Blue Oval’s media (read: PR) department sent some footage to SVTPerformance.com, and some of the videos were of the 2013/2014 GT500 lapping the renowned track. What happens next is rather interesting.
Since the video in question didn’t contain a stopwatch overlay or any accompanying timing information, SVTPerformance.com did some legwork to determine the ‘Stang’s lap time around the track. That time came out to be 7 minutes, 39 seconds, and 28 milliseconds.
For those that have to ask for some context on that number, we’ll just say this: the time is blazing fast. It’s faster than the super-duper-magnetic-suspension Camaro ZL1 from Chevy, and quicker than several Porsche 911s, including the Turbo S, several GT3 trims, and even faster than the purpose-built Caterham R500 Superlight.
So, feast your eyes and ears on the video below as the range-topping SVT-developed Mustang Shelby GT500, complete with the supercharged 5.8 liter Trinity V8 plus the handling and track packages, eats up the German track.
