Feature Spotlight: 2015 Lincoln MKC Introduces Class-Exclusive Approach Detection

When Lincoln customers begin to purchase the 2015 MKC in the summer of 2014, they will be greeted with a warm reception thanks to a new element found on the brand’s new compact crossover.

The MKC debuts Lincoln’s new Approach Detection feature, which senses when an owner is near the vehicle (using the proximity key) and responds by illuminating what Lincoln calls “welcome mats” (pictured) on the ground next to the front doors of the CUV. At the same time, headlamps, tail lamps, and door handles glow with soft lighting tuned to complement the vehicle’s exterior color.

With no other premium compact crossover delivering as warm a welcome, theĀ feature is exclusive to the Lincoln MKC in the segment.

The Motrolix Take

This is an extremely creative use of the proximity key technology, as it takes the feature one step further. As a whole, Approach Detection seems to be well-aligned with Lincoln’s new positioning as a warm and inviting luxury brand. We feel that it will resonate well with consumers.
