Kia Creates Buzz With GT4 Stinger Concept At Detroit Auto Show

Kia made the experience like that of the cinema; theatrics, popcorn, and of course the star itself the GT4 Stinger, with a 2.0L 4-cylinder T-GDI (Turbo Gas Direct Injection)  that produces 315 horsepower of go fast, and the good looks to boot, the GT4 Stinger has been dubbed as a “coming now” concept that shows Kia’s commitment to producing a vehicle that will please both gear heads “regular” customers alike. Speed has been a common theme of this years auto show, with Kia the most recent to throw its hat in the ring for the very first time.

“It’s an authentic 2+2 sports car that can turn heads as a daily driver while also being right at home on the track, it’s about purity, simplicity and timelessness,” touted Tom Kearns, Chief Designer of Kia Design Center America.

The first thing to notice is the Ignition Yellow color, which lets you know it is already prepared to launch before you even push the start button. The vehicle removes some of the typical features of an automobile in the name of losing weight for a sporty feel: the concept has no radio or internal door handles, the latter having been replaced by a red-stitched door strap. A 6-speed manual transmission adds to the frills of a commute.

While Kia has stated that it has no immediate plans to bring the GT4 Stinger to production, it can be discerned that it has all of the means necessary to do so: the RWD platform of its sister-car — the Hyundai Genesis Coupe and the T-GDI engine from the Optima. So perhaps in the very near future, Kia will finally become a player in the world of performance cars.
