Ford China Sales Up 53 Percent To 94,466 Units In January 2014

Starting the Year of the Horse on the right foot, sales of Ford Motor Company vehicles and those of its joint venture partner in China reached 94,466 units in January 2014. The results represent a 53 percent year-over-year increase from the 61,567 units sold in January 2013.

Specifically, sales of Ford’s passenger cars, including imported units, accounted for 72,598 vehicles, a 63 percent year-over-year increase compared to the 44,439 units sold in January 2013. Of the 72,598, 70,038 were attributable to Ford’s CAF (Changan Ford Automobile) joint venture, representing a 62 percent year-over-year growth.

The Ford Focus continued its stellar sales streak with 36,385 units sold, up 8 percent from the 33,632 sales during the same time period in 2013. The Blue Oval cites data from IHS Automotive pointing to the Focus being the top-selling nameplate in the passenger vehicle market in China in 2013. Additionally, the Ford Mondeo (aka Fusion) sold 10,704 units, up 51 percent from the 7,068 units sold in January 2013.

Meanwhile, Jiangling Motors Corporation (JMC), Ford’s commercial vehicle investment in China, sold 21,868 vehicles — a 28 percent year-over-year increase compared to the 17,136 units sold in January 2013.

To note: as with previous China sales reports, all sales volume figures presented here represent “wholesale” numbers, and thus include all sale types, whether to an individual customer or to a fleet buyer.
