Volkwagen GTI Club Sport Spotted At The ‘Ring

It seems Volkswagen may be planning on adding yet another sporty Golf variant to its stable, this one with a dash of lightness and some racing intentions.

Our friends over at Autoblog.com have gained some interesting spy shots of VW’s newest potential hot hatch pulling out of VW’s Nürburgring headquarters in Germany just a short while ago. Upon first glance, it would seem like a GTI with a minute array of cosmetic enhancements made by a certain “Wiecher Sport” company.

A keen observer might notice the subtly more aggressive front lip at the nose, revised rim design, peeping red brake calipers and, of course, that massive rear wing protruding from the hatch. It seems that such exterior adornments are an indicator of something interesting and exciting, such as a more track-focused equipment package that includes lightweight materials, stiffened suspension, and even a slightly more powerful version of the 2.0T.

The “Weicher Sport” sticker is rumored to be a ploy by the sneaky VW engineers to distract you from thinking this GTI Club Sport is entirely VW’s creation; such a statement is not so far fetched as Volkswagen employed a similar tactic when releasing its Euro-only Scirocco R, not to mention this vehicle was parked outside of VW’s headquarters and wearing official VW plates.

No indication has been made on whether such a machine will ever make it into the public’s hands, much less when, but one can safely assume that if the GTI Club Sport gets the green light from Ferdinand Piëch, we may see it within a year.
