Go to Chinatown in Manhattan and you’ll be able to find copies of expensive Italian luxury items. And if you go to China, you may be able to purchase a Ford knock-off. Perhaps the Kawei K1 pickup isn’t purporting to be a Ford but, if imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, at least the company has the decency to name-check Ford.
“No matter the black net grille and the outline of the headlamp, even if the styles of fog lamp and engine cover, it looks the same as [the] Ford Raptor,” says Kawei. Under the hood you’ll find no motors resembling anything out of Dearborn: 2.4L four with 141 horsepower or a 3.2L six-cylinder diesel with 106 horsepower. . . what? No EcoBoost designation? Either motor is backed by a five-speed manual.
