Tesla Now Fighting To Keep Retail Store Open In Missouri

It’s starting to become apparent that Tesla will have to fight to keep its retail stores open in almost every state in America they operate in. Their latest hurdle is in Missouri, where Tesla says a “sneak attack” is happening involving the changing of the language of a bill which will “thwart due process and hurt consumer freedom in Missouri.”

According to Autoblog, the new bill passed in the Missouri senate, which previously only focused on off-road vehicles, “would bar Tesla from selling its vehicles direct to consumers in the state,” the automaker said. Tesla currently has one of its retail stores open in the state. It also noted the bill passed “after zero public consultation and could soon move to the House floor for a final vote, essentially without debate.”

The bill states:

“In enacting subsection 3 of this section, it is the express intent of the legislature to prevent any manufacturer of new motor vehicles from circumventing the public policy as stated in section 407.811, by engaging in methods of retailing new motor vehicles which are designed to avoid the provisions of sections 407.810 to 407.835.”

Tesla is now reaching out to its supporters, customers and fans to help bring to light and fight the bill before it passes going largely unnoticed. It claims the debate should be “held in the full light of day with all sides being given an opportunity to make their case.” Instead, Tesla says, “the dealers are again trying to ram through a provision under the cover of darkness and without public debate.”
