Volkswagen U.S. dealers delivered 28,827 vehicles in June 2014, a 22 percent decline on a year-over-year basis. Most of the brand’s core product lineup posted a decrease in year-over-year sales volume, including the Golf, Jetta, Beetle, Passat, and Tiguan.
Although the brand has yet to post a sales gain in 2014, it is in the process of launching the all-new Golf. June marked the start of deliveries for the all-new seventh-generation 2015 Golf GTI, which saw sales jump 64 percent to 1,927 units. But it’s the regular (non-GTI) 2015 Golf that will should a noticeable impact on VW’s overall sales when it goes on sale in the U.S. in August. The fact that the new Golf is manufactured in Mexico for the U.S. market should allow VW to finally price the vehicle at a point that’s adequate to its class and segment.
June sales highlights (vs. June 2013):
- The Chattanooga-built Passat totaled 7,222 units delivered for the month, with the Passat TDI, the only clean diesel in the midsize sedan segment, selling 2,316 units, or 32.1 percent of total Passat sales. June 2014 marks the best year-to-date for Passat TDI Clean Diesel.
- Total Jetta deliveries for June, including SportWagen, accounted for 12,090 units, down 18 percent.
- The Tiguan delivered 2,416 units, down 1.47 percent
- The Touareg delivered 573 units, down 10 percent
