Zhejiang University Team Hacks Into Tesla Model S

Last week we told you about the Symposium on Security for Asia Network (SyScan360) which was offering a prize of $10,000 to successfully hack into a Tesla Model S. Well, it didn’t take long for someone to hack into the vehicle – a team from Zhejiang University in China has claimed the prize by exploiting some sort of “flow design flaw.”

While there’s no word on what the “flow design flaw” actually was, the team was able to control the Model S’s door locks, window controls, and horn while the car was moving.

The group has reported its finding to Tesla, who will surely examine the security breach and find an expeditious solution. Tesla views the turnout from SyScan as an opportunity to strengthen its security, saying it “[supported] the idea of providing an environment in which responsible security researchers can help identify potential vulnerabilities.”
