Audi TT Race Car Revealed

Germany’s most fashionable sportscar has just seen the reveal of its latest variant: an Audi TT race car.

As Auto Blog writes, this competition-spec version of the road-going car is set to perform in the inaugural Audi Sport TT Cup next year, and retains the same 2.0 liter turbocharged four-cylinder as the TTS, with one important addendum; the Audi TT race car gains an overboost function that delivers a short, 30 additional horsepower burst on-demand.

That’s not all that’s changed; this Audi TT race car is also a full 220 pounds lighter, thanks to a stripped-out interior. A massive rear wing and other aerodynamic touches have been added to increase downforce and improve cornering. An active differential distributes torque between the wheels, though the 6-speed dual-clutch automatic from the factory TTS remains the same.

The Audi Sport TT Cup for which this Audi TT race car was developed is being introduced next year as a support series to the German touring car series (DTM). The winning driver out of the 24 car grid will receive support from the manufacturer in competing in Audi’s GT3 race car program.
