Autoweek Pits 2014 Vs. 2015 Mustang GTs In Shootout

The last-generation Mustang was a performance bargain, but the 2015 Mustang is a brand-new vehicle that’s hardly being given away in comparison. Many folks, including Jake Lingeman from Autoweek, was one of the many folks who snapped up a 2014 Mustang GT as they were being phased out. How does it compare to the redesigned 2015 version?

Jake’s Mustang GT came with the GT Track Package, which includes 19-inch wheels with summer tires, Torsen limited-slip differential, and 3.73 rear axle ratio. The competing 2015 Mustang GT didn’t have the GT Performance Pack (which has replaced the Track Pack for 2015) so the tires and axle ratio are lacking in comparison. Hence, “the comparo isn’t really apples to apples, so take that for what it’s worth.”

Here’s how Jake pit the two cars:

  • Quarter-mile race
  • Slalom course
  • MIS road course

Some conclusions he made:

  • The 2015 Mustang is much more refined
  • MyFordTouch made day-to-day driving more agreeable “as long as you’re good with a sometimes-finicky touchscreen”
  • The new car’s gearbox doesn’t feel as robust as the old one’s

You read about Jake’s conclusions on Autoweek‘s website.
