Volkswagen Clinches Second Straight World Rally Championship Title

For the second year in a row, Volkswagen has clinched the World Rally Championship title. Like last year, the lead is considerable and the title is decided even with one more race to go.

By picking up a win at Rally Spain over the weekend, the defending Volkswagen champion duo of Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia clinched the 2014 WRC title as well. Their lead is so large; whatever happens in the Wales Rally will affect them.

Volkswagen actually controls the top spots with fellow Volkswagen drivers Matti Latvala and Miika Anttila sitting in second and Andreas Mikkelsen and Ola Fløene in third place.

For the year, Volkswagen has won 11 out of 12 races and has locked up the drivers’, co-drivers’ and manufactures’ titles for a second year.

The German automaker has been pretty dominate since it decided to enter their Polo R WRC last year. During that year, Volkswagen won ten out of thirteen races and won the title by a sizable margin. Volkswagen is also a participant in Global RallyCross.
