Come October 1, 2015, the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand will have a new chief in Dr. Herbert Diess, who has been unanimously appointed as a full member of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG.
In his new appointment, Dr. Diess will take over the Chairman post from Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn, who remains Chairman of the VW Group Board of Management. In fact, the function of “Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Passenger Cars” will be created with Diess’ appointment.
Diess is currently is a Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Development, and his appointment is expected to provide an increased focus on the VW brand, allowing Winterkorn to focus on chairing the group as a whole.
“With Herbert Diess we will be welcoming an outstanding personality and one of the most capable minds in the automotive industry to our Company. At the same time, this step puts the executive management of both the Group and the brand on an even broader footing”, Winterkorn commented.
