Ford F-150 ‘Rock Crawler’ Could Be The Successor To The Raptor: Spy Shots

Ford fans may be lamenting the (possibly temporary) loss of the SVT Raptor, but SEMA’s official web site shows a spy shot of a special-edition F-150 that just might show up at your local dealer: the F-150 Rock Crawler.

Of course, the Ford F-150 is all-new for 2015 so the automaker likely needs some time to roll out special models once Job #1 and whatever subsequent models are sorted out. If a real test mule, this Rock Crawler may be the first out of the gate. This prototype appears to be outfitted with the FX4 Off-Road performance package, which adds underbody skid plates, hill descent control, and off-road-tuned shock absorbers. But what makes this vehicle stand out is the wheel and tire setup. No markings suggest what it could be, but the small wheel combined with large tires suggest off-road intentions. Out back, the spy photos show a unique exhaust treatment, with the pipes exiting from the sides behind the rear wheels. SEMA suggests that the setup looks like it would allow for the best ground clearance and allow for optimal approach and departure angles.

Ford hasn’t indicated that there’s anything like the Rock Crawler in the pipeline, but since quality is its mind with the new F-150 pickup, we are bound to have some interesting variants in given time. Visit SEMA.org to see the two spy pics.
