Audi And Fiat In Trademark Battle Over Q2 And Q4 Nameplates

Audi and Fiat are currently in a small disagreement over the Q2 and Q4 nameplates, according to a new report from CAR Magazine,

As you may know, Audi is currently attempting to expand its product portfolio, and SUVs are critical part of the plan. A baby Q1 will be on its way soon, and the automaker has just unveiled heavily updated versions of its Q3 and Q7 crossovers. The automaker is now trying to lock in the names Q2 and Q4, but Fiat’s keeping a firm grasp on the trademarks.

FCA currently owns the Q2 and Q4 names, which were previously used by the brand to differentiate between two- and four-wheel drive Alfa Romeo and Maserati models. Neither brand is currently putting them to use, but that doesn’t mean they want to let them go, either. It’s not entirely clear why FCA’s holding onto the names so tightly, but CAR believes Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne doesn’t want to give them away to a rival automaker for simple competitive reasons.
