Bentley SUV To Officially Be Called ‘Bentayga’

Bentley CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer started his presentation at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit by telling us that 2014 was an exceptional year for sales of the ultra-luxury brand’s vehicles, and that the United States was its number one market by sales volume. Dürheimer then finished the conference by revealing the official name of the upcoming ultra-luxury SUV to be Bentayga.

“This SUV will be the Bentley of SUVs,” Dürheimer proclaimed during the conference, confirming that the ultimate in luxury sport utility from Bentley would launch later this year.

Initial reports pegged the Bentley SUV to be called Falcon, but Bentayga seems to be more along the lines of the brand’s not-so-colloquial naming strategy.

You see, tayga refers to the largest snow forest in the Northern hemisphere, an area Dürheimer is confident the Bentayga will be capable of conquering. Less specifically, then name refers to the Bentayga’s capability to take on any landscape drivers come across. And though we don’t see many Bentley Bentayga owners taking their ultra-luxury SUVs off-roading, we take comfort in knowing that the VW-owned British marque is developing the vehicle with the highest capabilities in mind.

Stay tuned to Motrolix as we move closer to the official Bentley Bentayga reveal.
