First Production Mustang Shelby GT350R Goes For $1 Million

You wanted to be the first to purchase the all-new Ford Mustang Shelby GT350R, are we right? Bad news; someone already beat you to it, and paid $1 million for the privilege.

The Mustang Shelby GT350R bearing the #001 VIN badge just sold recently at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. Proceeds went to JDRF, which leads the charge in research into Type I diabetes.

If you are unacquainted with the car, which bowed at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, allow us to fill you in; it has the same flat-plane crank, 5.2 liter V8 as in the regular Shelby GT350, pumping out in excess of 500 HP without forced-induction. It also sees to the removal of the rear seating, air-conditioning, sound system, etc. to save weight, and throws standard carbon fiber wheels into the mix.

The result of that last bullet-point is a combined reduction of over 50 pounds of unsprung weight around the car, and we can only guess how damn beautiful that feels. But frankly, so can the owner; the Barrett-Jackson website points out that the winning bidder only won the right to the very first Shelby GT350R. He or she still has to check all those color and options boxes.
