Volkswagen Introduces New Polo R WRC

There may not be a more potent road-going version of the Volkswagen Polo other than the Polo GTI, but there’s a new sheriff in town when it comes to the WRC contest, as Volkswagen has unveiled an all-new Polo R WRC that’s set to tackle the World Rally Championship this year.

This new Polo R WRC has its work cut out for it, as the outgoing model was quite proven, winning ten WRC events during 2014 and bringing home the manufacturer’s and championship titles. Volkswagen says that the new Polo R WRC has a few new bits to ensure it continues to dominate well into the new season.

The most noticeable changes to the new rally racer are a new Red Bull livery and new body work. Under the skin, Volkswagen has revised three quarters of the car’s components, but hasn’t provided any specifics. It does, however, say that it is very proud of the new hydraulic gearbox, calling it the car’s “biggest innovation”.

Stay tuned for further details as we see what the new Polo R WRC is capable of when it’s handed to the automaker’s racing drivers Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen.
