We got our first look at the 2015 Mustang Shelby GT350 at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show, but Ford saved the Shelby GT350R for the 2015 North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The no-compromises super pony Mustang Shelby GT350R uses the same high-revving flat-plane crank 5.2L V8 as the GT350 making the same amount of power, but the Shelby GT350R is lighter thanks to the removal of air-conditioning components, the stereo system, rear seats, trunk floorboard and carpeting, and exhaust resonators. Plus, it has standard carbon fiber wheels. All in all, the new super pony drops 130 pounds (59 kilos) form the “standard” Shelby GT350. In addition to the light-weighting changes, Ford lowered the new super pony’s ride height, raised the spring rates, and recalibrated the MagneRide adjustable dampers.
