2015 Audi R18 E-Tron Makes Debut During Sebring Tests: Video

Audi and the updated R18 e-tron recently ventured down to Florida for P1 pre-season tests at Sebring international Raceway. The fifth-generation of the R18 was filmed and photographed by RACER sharing the long 3.7 mile track with the Florida-based Tequila Patron ESM WEC LMP2 team ahead of the first WEC race of the season, the 6 Hours of Silverstone on April 12th.

For 2015, Audi has given the R18 a new front end with a sharper nose, along with redesigned side pods and rear bodywork, a new engine cover and new horizontally mounted headlights. As RACER’s Marshall Pruett points out, the aerodynamic overhaul includes two rather interesting front intake vents integrated into the front side pods, which serve as very long air flow conditioners, or ‘turning vanes.’

The new R18 managed to break the old car’s record lap time of 1:43.8 set in 2013 by Audi during the 12 Hours of Sebring, with radio chatter referencing laps in the low 1:42s range. Judging from the mesmerizing cornering speed exhibited by the R18 in the video below, the time is likely spot on, solidifying Audi as a force to reckoned with once again come race time.
