2015 Ford Mustang GT, Volkswagen Golf R Make Hagerty’s ‘Hot List’

Since the dawn of automakers like Pierce Arrow, Rolls-Royce and Bentley in the early 20^th century, one question has continued to dog automobile enthusiasts and car collectors alike: which vehicles will become tomorrow’s collector cars?

While one can never truly know the answers to this question, a few people with their nose on the tarmac, such McKeel Hagerty, CEO of Hagerty Insurance Agency, have been good at hazarding guesses. For the eighth year in a row, Hagerty has compiled Hagerty’s Hot List: Top Ten Future Collector Cars, a list of ten vehicles on sale the organization believes will become future collectibles. Interestingly, Hagerty keeps all of his guesses under the $100,000 mark, with the inkling that many vehicles worth 100k or more should increase in value anyway.

For 2015, both the 2015 Mustang GT with the Performance Package and Volkswagen’s hot new 2015 Golf R graced the list. Hagerty said Ford did a brilliant job following up the previous-generation, 2014 Mustang, saying that the new pony is “better perhaps than in 1967 when the Mustang was re-designed for the first time”. The 2015 Mustang GT commemorates back-to-back placement for Ford, which also found a spot on last years’ list in the form of the Fiesta ST.

Hagerty also praised VW’s new Golf R for its outright performance. The blazing-hot hatch is capable of sprinting to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds to a top speed of 155 mph, with Hegary saying that it’s “bound to excite collectors now and in the future. It’s the Golf that GTI fan boys and girls have been begging VW to build.” High praise indeed.
