Audi To Run Low Downforce Spec R18 At Spa In Preparation For Le Mans

Audi was recently caught testing a low downforce-spec R18 at Monza in Italy in preparation for the unofficial main event of motorsports, the 24 Hours of Le Mans. It turns out Monza isn’t the only place Audi will be using to help test out the new low downforce body, with Motorsport reporting the automaker will also run two low downforce cars at Spa this weekend.

According to reports, the No. 7 car of Andre Lotterer, Benoit Treluyer and Marcel Fassler, along with the No. 8 entry of Lucas Di Grassi, Oliver Jarvis and Loic Duval, will both run the low downforce Le Mans body at Spa. The automaker’s third car is expected to retain a similar spec to that used during the 6 Hours of Silverstone.

Audi has yet to confirm the specifics on the new low downforce R18 e-tron, however Motorsport says changes likely been applied to the front wing elements , brake intakes and rear deck. We may know more about the Le Mans-spec R18 following its competition debut in Belgium this weekend.
