In spirit, the Audi RS3 is very much like the king of the high-performance quattro range, the mid-engined R8. It’s a well balanced performance car with all-wheel drive and an S Tronic seven-speed transmission, and with just half the amount of cylinders in its turbocharged five-pot, it even sounds like the R8 V10 if you use your imagination a bit.
Audi wanted to communicate to customers the stunning R8 supercar’s DNA lies within the more affordable RS3 Sportback, but to be honest, they picked a mildly disturbing way to do so. The brand’s introductory spot for the new 362 horsepower RS3 shows an R8 giving ‘birth’ to the high performance hatch, and even though it only involves inanimate objects, it’s sort of graphic.
That being said, the ad certainly sticks in your mind, and it’s a good way to show more uninformed consumers the RS3 has more in common with a six-figure supercar than they may think, both looks and performance wise. We don’t doubt its effectiveness, but it might be hard to look at the RS3 the same way ever again.
