Lamborghini’s fabled “SV” badge. It’s an abbreviation of the Italian SuperVeloce, meaning “high-speed,” which has to be one of the greatest understatements in human history.
The SuperVeloce designation has just recently found a new home on the Lamborghini Aventador SV (LP 750-4), unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show with deliveries starting this year. The “750” part of its ridiculous alpha-numeric-nonsense name proudly discloses the car’s brake horsepower, which is up about 50 ponies from the standard car. That’s all good and well, except the real headlines are the 110-pound weight reduction and near-tripling of the downforce.
SuperVeloce indeed. The Lamborghini Aventador SV is an absolute monster, and the Italian marque has the numbers to prove it; the video below shows onboard video of a sub-7-minute Nürburgring lap time. It comes in at just a sliver under 7 minutes, mind you, but still; that’s Porsche 918 territory, putting the Lamborghini Aventador SV up there with the absolute fastest street-legal production cars of all-time.
And it achieves this, might we add, with no hybridization of the powertrain.
