2017 Volkswagen Jetta To Be Larger, Have Four-Door Coupe Bodystyle

The next-generation Volkswagen Jetta will grow in size slightly and have styling more akin to a four-door coupe, according to German motoring publication Auto Bild. This will be possible as the Passat has also grown in recent times, so the compact Jetta will not begin to encroach on the Passat’s mid-size segment.

Bild says the new Jetta will be built on Volkswagen’s Modular Transverse Matric platform, or MQB, and will offer roughly the same amount of interior space as the Skoda Octavia. Unlike the VW CC, the new Jetta probably won’t be a true four-door coupe and will instead have a mildly raked, sloping roofline to give it a more sporty character.

Production for the next-generation Jetta is expected to stay at VW’s Puebla factory in Mexico. Development work on the car is currently underway, with a release date scheduled for early 2017.
