BMW U.S. Sales Up 4.7 Percent To 31,003 Units In May 2015

U.S. BMW dealers delivered 31,003 new vehicles in May 2015, a 4.73 percent increase compared to May 2014.

“The summer driving season is getting underway and judging by the record May for BMW it’s clear the demand is still strong for new cars across the U.S.” said Ludwig Willisch, President and CEO, BMW of North America. “The momentum continues as we celebrate 40 years of the iconic BMW 3 Series and look for more news to come from BMW in the days ahead.”

We assume that Mr. Willisch is referring to the upcoming reveal of the all-new 2015 7 Series on June 10th 2015 in Munich.

May 2015 notes (vs. May 2014, except as noted):

  • 2 Series up 16.9 percent to 1,119 units
  • 3/4 Series up 17.8 percent to 12,868 units
  • 7 Series up 55 percent to 943 units
  • X4 accounted for 375 sales
  • X5 up 34.4 percent to 5,797 units
  • X6 up 71.7 percent to 565 units
  • i3 up 143.4 percent to 818 units
  • i8 accounted for 117 sales
  • Sales of all other BMW models were down on a year-over-year basis

In addition, BMW Certified Pre-Owned vehicles accounted for 11,105 sales in May, up 21.0 percent over May 2014. The BMW CPO cars posted a year-to-date gain of 25.2 percent to 49,070 vehicles sold over the same period in 2014.

BMW says that total BMW Pre-Owned sales continue to be challenged by low availability, with 17,416 vehicles sold in May 2015, a 3.6 percent decrease from May 2014. The Total BMW Pre-Owned cars sold for the first five months were 78,072, a 5.6 percent decrease from the same period in 2014.
