New products destined for the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show continue to surface, with the latest being Audi’s 2016 SQ5 TDI Plus. Offering even more performance than the sporty-yet-fuel-efficient SQ5 TDI, the SQ5 TDI Plus supports the notion that performance SUVs are and will continue to be all-the-rage.
Audi’s ‘Plus’ treatment has upped the output of the 3.0-liter TDI V6 engine by 27 horsepower and 50 lb-ft for a grand total of 340 horsepower and 516 lb-ft. The power bump is also joined by a new sport differential for the Quattro all-wheel drive system and 21-inch S-Line wheels.
The uprated V6 and 8-speed tiptronic transmission in the SQ5 TDI Plus will help it accelerate from 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds and hit an electronically limited of 155 mph. More important to the European markets the sport crossover’s intended for, it will easily return a combined 35.6 MPG if driven with care.
Also available for the SQ5 TDI Plus will be Audi’s exclusive selection macaw blue equipment package, of which only 100 units will be made. The upgrade includes sport seats with macaw blue elements, macaw blue contrasting stitching on the steering wheel and gear selector level and special floor mats.
The SQ5 TDI Plus will be available in Germany from €67,700 this October. The macaw blue special edition interior package will carry a €12,000 price premium.
