New MyFord Mobile App Lets EV Owners Check Battery Status From Their Smartwatch

Owners of Ford electric or hybrid vehicles may now use a smartwatch to check on their vehicle’s battery life, receive directions back to their car and much more thanks to the automaker’s new MyFord Mobile app.

Ford’s MyFord Mobile smartwatch app is available for both Android and Apple devices and is designed to compliment the MyFord Mobile app first released for smartphones in 2012. The app will allow users to check the range and charge status of their hybrid or EV, lock or unlock their doors, provide a summary of their last trip and also provides walking or driving directions back to their parked car.

“The app gives drivers the ability to quickly check important data like available range before leaving on a journey – without having to access the mobile application on their smartphone,” said manager for connected vehicles and services at Ford, David Hatton. “The app can also notify users when their car is fully charged, helping a driver be courteous to other electric vehicle owners so they can free up the charging spot or avoid fees applied at some charging stations when you overrun your time after the charge is complete.”

The app will work with the Ford C-MAX Energi, Ford Focus Electric or Ford Fusion Energi, however if Ford expands its hybrid or electric vehicle portfolio in the near future, new models could also accomodate use of the app.
