Possible Ford Fusion ST Prototype Spied Incognito

Back in May, we wrote a piece outlining our argument as to why Ford Performance should introduce an ST-badged version of the rather excellent Fusion (a.k.a. “Mondeo”) sedan.

Already, the automaker looks poised to answer our prayers; Autoblog managed to secure a handful of spy photographs showing an alleged Ford Fusion ST sedan in camouflage, just chillaxin’ in a public parking lot.

Autoblog suggests that the Ford Fusion ST will derive its thrust from a 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, producing in excess of 300 HP. All-wheel drive is also anticipated, along with a standard 6-speed automatic transmission, although hopefully, a manual option will also make itself available.

The application of the “ST” performance badge to anything with a sedan body style would be unprecedented in the US market, but welcome nonetheless. The spy shots of said Ford Fusion ST clearly show quad exhaust tips, upsized matte black wheels, and big, beefy-looking brake calipers, all of which at least corroborate that the spied car is, in fact, a more performance-oriented take on the Fusion sedan.

We fully expect this Ford Performance product to venture overseas as a Mondeo ST, as well. Now, if only the US market could get a Fusion ST wagon
