Sergio Marchionne Cancels Plans To Attend Frankfurt Motor Show Amid UAW Negotiations

Sergio Marchionne had previously planned to attend the unveiling of two new Fiay-Chrysler products at the ongoing Frankfurt Motor Show this week, however he has now cancelled those plans amid contract negotiations with the UAW.

According to The Detroit News, FCA said Marchionned called his trip to Germany off “due to other commitments in U.S.” The Big Three’s contract with the UAW is set to expire at 11:59 p.m. tonight, and UAW Vice President Norwood Jewell says there are “still many items of importance to be reconciled.”

The UAW currently represents about 141,000 workers, 35,700 of which work with FCA US. UAW members met over the weekend in order discuss a new potential contract with the union and the automakers, or agreeing to continue working under the current contract.
