Porsche AG Appoints Oliver Blume As New CEO: Officially Official

Porsche AG has just shared the name of its next CEO, taking over for Mr. Matthias Müller, who himself left the brand to assume the role of Volkswagen Group CEO in the absence of Martin Winterkorn. Confirming the rumors on which we’d reported earlier this week, Porsche AG’s new CEO will indeed be Mr. Oliver Blume, who currently serves as Head of Production and Logistics.

But there’s another notable new appointment, as well; Executive Board Member for Finance Lutz Meschke has been appointed Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board, replacing Thomas Edig, who is being reassigned to a Board position with Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Dr. Wolfgang Porsche, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG, shared in a release that he is thrilled that “our new member of the Executive Board and new Chairman of the Board come from within the company. Porsche not only has a highly motivated workforce, but also has a very large number of exceptionally qualified managers.”

Dr. Porsche then went on to praise former Porsche AG CEO Matthias Müller for his accomplished tenure. “Porsche practically doubled its unit sales, revenue and workforce size” over the five years he served as brand CEO, and the Chairman thanked Müller for some of the exciting products to come along during his years as Chief, including the 918 Spyder and Porsche Macan. “The first-second finish at the legendary Le Mans racetrack with our 919 Hybrid technology platform was the icing on the cake,” said Dr. Wolfgang Porsche.

Chairman of the Group Works Council of Porsche AG Uwe Hück also commented on the departure of CEO Matthias Müller, and the appointment of Oliver Blume to take his place. In a statement, Mr. Hück said: “Ever since 2010, Matthias Müller has been the ‘turbocharger,’ the driving force for great advances at Porsche. He embodies our Porsche DNA. We are not happy to see him go. But his successor, Oliver Blume, is no budding manager; rather he is in full bloom. He has the right drive technology in him, and he is a Porsche person through and through… And I think that appointing a Production person to the top position is a strong statement.

“I am certain that Oliver Blume is the right choice for successfully continuing and further developing what we have built up together with Matthias Müller. If we want to follow through on our planned projects and assure our future, we need continuity.”
