Apple Pursued Clarkson, Hammond And May Before Amazon Deal Was Reached

The world’s car enthusiasts cheered in unison upon the announcement that former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond had signed a deal with Amazon Prime to host a new car show. But before the trio was hired on at Amazon, there were rumors they were going to sign with Netflix or Sky.

Those weren’t the only services looking to hire on the world’s favorite band of motorists though, according to Autoblog. Apple is said to have made an “unprecedented bid” for Clarkson, Hammond and May, but they apparently couldn’t top Amazon’s yet-to-be-announced offering.

The real news here is that Apple was in search of three TV hosts. The company is clearly in the process of trying to make original programming, which means an answer to Netflix and Amazon Prime’s video streaming service is probably on the horizon.
