Historic ‘Bentley Blower’ Race Car Competing In 2015 Mille Miglia

The historic Mille Miglia race started last Thursday, and will be running through Sunday, May 17th. If you’ve been watching any of the coverage, you may have noticed a familiar face: that of the 1930 “Bentley Blower.”

For its fifth year, the original supercharged, 4.5-liter Bentley Blower is running the 1,000-mile vintage car rally in Italy. This happens to mark the 85th year since Captain Tim Birkin originally attempted to campaign his own Bentley Blower in the 1930 Mille Miglia, an effort which was aborted on account of a lack of “due preparation.”

Hopefully, this Sunday will see the 1930 Bentley Blower – which served as a demonstrator car in a past life – again complete the race that its Birkin-driven counterpart never did all those years ago. The supercharged Bentley Blower being campaigned this year still retains its original Vanden Plas Open Sports body, and has done well over 100,000 miles since its production.

However, the Blower has no intention of slowing down. After all, it’s still pulling strong after more than 8 decades of spirited use.

Bentley Director of Royal and VIP Relations Richard Charlesworth is piloting the historic Bentley Blower demonstrator car this year. He remarks: “Last year we achieved the best result ever for Bentley, and this year we are hoping to continue that success.”
