2016 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350: 526 HP, 429 LB-FT From 5.2L V8

Ford may have unveiled the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit earlier this year, but they kept official power output numbers a secret, only saying the flat-plane crank pony car would produce “over 500 horsepower.” Today, however, the Blue Oval finally disclosed official power numbers for hardcore track car, and they don’t fail to impress.

The 2015 Ford Mustang Shelby GT350’s 5.2-liter V8 engine will produce 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. Peak torque arrives at 4,750 rpm, with 90 percent of the engine’s torque being available from 3,450 to 7,000 rpm. Peak power, meanwhile, will come at a sky-high 7,000 rpm, not far off the 8,250 rpm redline. The latter statistic also makes the Shelby’s  5.2-liter V8 the highest revving V8 in Ford’s history, a record we’re sure the GT350 will hold onto for eternity.

Some other details on the new 5.2-liter engine were also released by Ford. The engine has a bore and stroke of 94 and 93 millimeters and a 12.0:1 compression ratio. The camshafts will provide 14 millimeters of lift for both the hollow-stem intake valves and sodium-filled exhaust valves, while a huge 87 millimeter throttle body, the largest ever fitted to a Ford motor, will be on hand to feeds plenty of air into the engine.

A limited amount of the 2015 Mustang Shelby GT350 will reach customers this year. Most customers will be receiving their cars in early to mid-2016 at a cost of $48,695 before options, a gas-guzzler tax and potential dealer markups.
